Built in 1949 for a cost of $200,000, Long Beach Harbor Lighthouse is often forgotten about. Many consider it an eyesore, or just a pile of brick. But, this historic light has earned the title “The World’s Ugliest Lighthouse.”
The light has been a witness to the growing Long Beach & Los Angeles ports, being involved in several rescue attempts. Becoming fully automated from the start, the light was an early example of the future of beacons.
Keepers of the Light Foundation is committed to growing the culture around the Ugly Light.
